The musician’s long time manager, Jon Landau (played by Jeremy Strong) makes several things painfully clear to Columbia Records executive Al Teller (played by David Krumholtz) in the first trailer for Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, when he says “Here’s what I want you to understand.” “this is not about either one of us. This is not about the charts. This is about Bruce Springsteen. And these are the songs that he wants to work on right now.”
Portrayed by Jeremy Allen White, in the teaser Springsteen sits behind a microphone in his New Jersey bedroom with his engineer for the Nebraska sessions, Mike Batlan (played by Paul Walter Hauser,) to whom he says “Don’t need to be perfect.” “I want it to feel like I’m in the room by myself.”
About the biopic, director Scott Cooper said “Making Springsteen was deeply moving as it allowed me to step inside the soul of an artist I’ve long admired — and to witness, up close, the vulnerability and strength behind his music.” “The experience felt like a journey through memory, myth, and truth. And more than anything, it was a privilege to translate that raw emotional honesty to the screen, and in doing so, it changed me. I cannot thank Bruce and Jon Landau enough for allowing me to tell their story.”
Based on Warren Zane’s 2023 book, Deliver Me from Nowhere, Cooper wrote the script for the film that also stars Gaby Hoffman and Marc Maron, the production for which started last October.
It was in November when Springsteen stopped by a shoot day in Bayonne, New Jersey, when the crew was capturing the moment he picked out his first car, a Chevrolet Z28 Camaro. The scene appears early in the trailer, with a salesman telling him, “It’s awful fitting for a handsome devil rockstar — I do know who you are.” White’s Springsteen responds, “Well, that makes one of us.”
Arriving In theaters Oct. 24, Deliver Me From Nowhere catches the iconic singer/songwriter during the making of Nebraska, the legendary 1982 stripped down acoustic folk full length.
