Britney’s Sister, Jamie Lynn, Speaks Out About The Conservatorship Fight

On Monday, Britney Spears‘ younger sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, stated that she was proud of her sister for speaking out about her life while under their father’s conservatorship, and that she backed whatever made her sibling happy.

In an Instagram video post, Jamie Lynn Spears claimed that she now felt comfortable addressing the matter because her sister had testified in court. “Since the day I was born, I’ve only loved adored and supported my sister,” Jamie stated. “I’m so proud of her for using her voice,” adding that “I am only concerned about her happiness” and that she “has nothing to gain or lose either way.”

Last week, Britney Spears, now 39, told a Los Angeles judge that the conservatorship she has been under for thirteen years is oppressive, including the inability to remove a birth control device that would allow her to having children.

An actress who starred in the Netflix series Sweet Magnolias, Jamie Lynn stated, “I don’t care if she wants to run away to a rain forest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere, or if she wants to come back and dominate the world.” adding that she would back her sister in “ending the conservatorship or flying to Mars or whatever else she wants to do to be happy.”

Fellow pop artist, Christina Aguilera, also expressed her support for Britney via Twitter. “it is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish.” said the RCA recording artist, who co-starred in Disney’s The Mickey Mouse Club with Britney Spears when they were both children. “I promise you [Britney] deserves all of the freedom possible to live her happiest life,” she said, “to a woman who has worked under conditions and pressure unimaginable to most.”

Britney Spears’ legal dilemma started in 2008, when the singer had a mental breakdown. She made a reappearance a year later, releasing new albums and performing live over the next ten years, until late 2018. The superstar musician began the legal extrication process in 2020 to have her father, Jamie Spears, removed from all aspects of her personal life, including her medical care and who visits her private home outside of Los Angeles. Jamie Spears is also a co-conservator of Britney Spears’ money.
