‘Blinding Lights’ Hits 5Billion Streams

It’s official. ‘Blinding Lights‘ by The Weeknd has become the first song to reach 5,000,000,000 streams on Spotify.

On Sunday (8.31,) alongside a photo of the Canadian artist, executives from the music streaming service announced via Instagram that the 2019 track had made history again, stating “On August 31st, 2025, The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights became the first song to reach 5 billion streams on Spotify.”

Born Abel Tesfaye, the superstar singer reposted the news for his 78,000,000 Instagram Stories followers to see.

The second single on The Weeknd’s 2020 LP, After Hours, the synth-pop and new wave influences of ‘Blinding Lights’ received critical acclaim upon release which, along with Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ and ‘Starboy by The Weeknd and Daft Punk, round out the top three.

After learning ‘Blinding Lights’ had surpassed 4,000,000.000 streams on Spotify, in January of 2024, the now 35-year old superstar singer/songwriter expressed his delight to Billboard, saying:

“I’ll never stop being humbled by anything I create making its way to millions of people let alone billions!” “I’m so thankful this song makes people feel a way that they keep going back to listen.”
