Several days in advance of Christmas, on December 20 Blackpink released a trailer for the virtual concert BLACKPINK: A VR Encore, on Sunday (12.24,) the group’s Jennie announced a company and label, and on Sunday (12.24,) Lisa from the band has dropped a cover to Britney Spears‘ “My Only Wish (This Year).”
The only Christmas song ever recorded by Spears is the leadoff track in the compilation album Platinum Christmas, which also featured TLC, the Backstreet Boys, and R. Kelly, (which Rolling Stone ranked the Christmas jingle at 84 on their list of every song Britney has released.)
In addition to the early-2000s Spears cover, Lisa will also be featured in BLACKPINK: A VR Encore, the virtual concert that will give fans the chance to watch the closing show of the Born Pink world tour in Seoul, South Korea (12.26) on Meta Horizon Worlds.
Founded in November, in an Instagram post, Jennie described her new project, Odd Atelier (OA), as a “space that aims to create new things that attract attention in a different way from what is usual or expected.”
In August, Blackpink members Rosé, Jennie, Jisoo, and Lisa celebrated seven years together in August. Lisa, who became part of the all-girl group at the age of 14, told Rolling Stone for a May digital cover that they’ve joked about what will happen if the K-Pop group ends stating “But then I see the Spice Girls, how they got together for a reunion concert. Can we do that too someday?” Jennie said to Rolling Stone. “Will I be able to dance then, like I do now? I mean, won’t Blackpink last at least 10 more years? We’ll be nearly 40 by then.”
