Billy Porter Recovers From Sepsis

Singer’/actor/activist Billy Porter is recovering from a serious case of sepsis.

Originally slated to perform as the Emcee for thirteen weeks until October 19, Porter’s ailing health has meant that Broadway’s Cabaret has has set a premature closing date with the final performance scheduled for September 21. 

Porter had to withdraw from the show “due to a serious case of sepsis”, and in a social media statement posted to Instagram, representatives for the theatrical production stated “His doctors are confident that he will make a full recovery, but have advised him to maintain a restful schedule.”

Calling Porter “an extraordinary Emcee,” producer Adam Speers said “We wish Billy a speedy recovery, and I look forward to working with him again in the very near future,” and regarding the decision to close the production early, Speers stated explained the “painful” decision was made “with a heavy heart,” adding:

“On behalf of all the producers, we’re so honored to have been able to bring this version of John Kander, Fred Ebb and Joe Masteroff’s important masterpiece, Cabaret, to New York, and to have opened the doors to our own Kit Kat Club for the year and a half we have been here.”
