On Thursday (7.25,) Billy Joel officially ended his historic ten-year residency at Manhattan’s Madison Square Garden.
Since launching his residency in January of 2014, the iconic singer/songwriter performed at the legendary New York venue once every month throughout the next decade, and his swan song show set a record at the arena by giving his 150th lifetime show on its stage.
Paying homage to the musician and the occasion, talk show host Jimmy Fallon joined Joel on stage to present him with a banner celebrating 150 shows at the New York venue, and said:
“Congratulations.” “I love you. New York City loves you. The world loves you. You’ve given us all great memories of being here. And now we get to watch you get a memory. You’re never going to forget this night here.”
In support of their father’s final MSG show, Joel’s two youngest daughters, Della (8) and Remy (6) then took to the stage to join him as he performed his 1978 hit ‘My Life.’
Billy was also joined on stage by Guns N’ Roses star Axl Rose as they performed renditions of Wings’ ‘Live and Let Die’ and AC/DC’s ‘Highway to Hell.’
During the show Joel performed such classics as his ‘Uptown Girl,’ ‘Only The Good Die Young,’ ‘Piano Man,’ ‘It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me’ and ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire,’ before inviting Axl back on stage for the final song of the night, ‘You May Be Right.’
Now 75-years old Joel will travel to England in August to play a stadium show in Cardiff, Wales with Chris Isaak, followed by a series of headlining North American shows with Rod Stewart or Sting.
