Billy Joel Releases First New Song In 17 Years

Following a 17-year break from recording music, Billy Joel has announced his forthcoming new single ‘Turn The Lights Back On.’

Scheduled to drop next month, in a press release, the legendary singer/songwriter said the new song is a “classic Billy Joel-style tune, embodying the hallmarks of his signature sound and ushering in the next chapter of his story. In the lyrics, he asks, ‘Did I wait too long… to turn the lights back on?'”

During a performance at Madison Square Garden last December, the now 74-years old, the piano man hinted at new music, telling the audience:

“I have good news and bad news.” “I’ll give you the bad news first. We don’t have anything new to play for you. The good news is you don’t have to sit through something you have no idea what it is. Although, we got a little something we’re working on you might hear sometime.”

‘Turn The Lights Back On’ is the first true single the six-time Grammy Award winner has released since ‘All My Life’ in 2007, that reached #1 on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales Chart. And Joel’s last full length LP, Fantasies & Delusions, was released in 2001.

Billy’s new track was produced and co-written by Freddy Wrexler, whose worked with such fellow hitmakers as Selena Gomez, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber and Kanye West.

On February 1, Columbia Records will drop the single on streaming platforms along with an accompanying limited edition 7″ vinyl.
