Billy Joel Doc Opens Tribeca Film Festival

Come June, the 2025 Tribeca Festival will open with the world premiere of HBO’s two-part documentary “Billy Joel: So It Goes.”

On Sunday (4.06,) during an appearance at the NAB Trade Show in Las Vegas, the iconic festival’s co-founder Jane Rosenthal confirmed the doc debut stating:

“Paying tribute to the legendary performer who captured the essence of a New York State of Mind is a perfect way to kick off this year’s celebration of creativity and inspiration.”

Billed as “an expansive portrait of the life and music of Billy Joel, exploring the love, loss and personal struggles that fuel his songwriting,” the HBO original two-part set features extensive one-on-one interviews and access to never-before-seen performances, home movies and personal photographs.

Scheduled to run through 15 June, the Tribeca Film Festival’s opening night will be on June 4 at New York’s Beacon Theatre, with additional programming, spanning film, music, TV, audio storytelling, talks, games and immersive media to be announced in the coming weeks.

Now 75-years of age, Billy Joel wrapped up a lucrative residency at Madison Square Garden in July of 2024 that concluded a decade-long run of sold-out monthly shows.
