In advance of the 2024 Academy Awards, two Barbie tracks were favorites to win Best Original Song.
On Oscars night, Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For? (which won same award at the Golden Globes and Grammys earlier this year) and Ryan Gosling‘s “I’m Just Ken,” which recently won the Best Song at the Critics Choice Awards were in contention and it was Billie who took home the golden statue, making her the youngest two-time Oscar winner in Academy Award history.
During her Sunday night (3.10) acceptance, a stunned Eilish told the star studded audience “I had a nightmare about this last night.” “I just didn’t think this would happen. I wasn’t expecting this. I feel so incredibly lucky and honored.” “I’m grateful for this song and this movie and the way it made me feel.”
Eilish took a tongue-n-cheek moment to also thank her dance and choir teachers, sayinh “Ms. T you didn’t like me, but you were good at your job.”
Dedicating the award to everyone impacted by Barbie and thanking director Greta Gerwig. Billie’s bother Finneas added “Thank you to our parents for ever and ever and ever.”
