During her 2023 Juno Awards appearance on Monday (3.10,) Avril Lavigne confronted a topless stage invader who interrupted the gig.
As the Canadian-born musician was introducing a performance by AP Dhillon during her hometown music awards show, a topless protester appeared onstage wearing pink cargo trousers, a matching headscarf, stickers on her breasts. Her body was covered in the words “save the green belt” – a reference to the Ontario government’s controversial housing development plan.
Though Lavigne initially continued her introduction as the protester walked about the stage, waving her arms, the singer soon said, “Get the f**k off! Get the f**k off, b**tch!” as a security guard escorted the invader away.
When she accepted the fan-voted TikTok Juno Fan Choice Award later in the show the musician said “Now nobody try anything this time.” “I’ll f**k a b**ch up.”
Five competitive awards were handed out on the night, with The Weeknd winning album of the year for Dawn FM and Jessie Reyez taking home Contemporary R&B recording of the year for ‘Yessie.’ Nickelback were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame during the ceremony, which took place at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
