Appropriate for Saturday Night Live‘s “Homecoming Concert,” Lady Gaga and Andy Samberg delivered a special performance at Radio City Music Hall in celebration of the show’s 50th anniversary.
Though the audience might’ve expected the superstar singer to perform one of her recent hits, instead the Grammy award winner was joined by comic actor and former SNL cast member Andy Samberg who attempted to sing “Shallow,” the hit track from Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s 2018 film A Star Is Born.
When Gaga told Samberg, “I gotta stop you, because it’s bad,” and recommended they do something “more in your vocal range,” Andy suggested “There is one song, but Justin [Timberlake’s] not here to do his parts.” Undeterred, Gaga replied, “Andy, don’t be a bitch. I’ll do it with you,” before the pair pivoted to the Lonely Island classic, “Dick in a Box,” the song that debuted during SNL‘s 2006 Christmas episode with Timberlake.
Shortly thereafter, Gaga and Samberg shared the stage with Bad Bunny, T-Pain, Chris Parnell, Eddie Vedder, and former Lonely Island member Jorma Taccone for a whacky mashup of “Motherlove,” “Lazy Sunday,” “I’m On a Boat,” “Jack Sparrow,” and “Jizz in My Pants.”
The musical event kicked off a weekend that concluded with SNL‘s 50th anniversary special that aired on NBC on Sunday night (2.16.) featuring a star-studded lineup of returning cast members and special guests, including Tom Hanks, Kim Kardashian, Martin Short, Robert De Niro, Sabrina Carpenter, Adam Driver, and others.
