A$AP Rocky Found Innocent Of Assault Charges

On Tuesday (2.18,) superstar rapper/song writer A$AP Rocky was declared not guilty on all counts by a jury of his peers in his Los Angeles felony criminal trial.

Following the news, the defendant’s longtime girlfriend, mother of his two children, and fellow musician, Rihanna, broke out in tears as the verdict was read.

Facing up to 24 years in prison if convicted, the three-time Grammy award nominee was originally charged with a pair of felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

According to the Associated Press, as he left the courtroom following the verdict, the rapper (born Rakim Mayers) told the jury (of seven women and five men,) “Thanks y’all for saving my life.”

Prior to going into the trial, the Harlem, New York-born entertainer had declined an offer from prosecutors of a six-month jail sentence and probation that would have required Rocky to plead guilty to one count in the case.

After deliberating for about three hours following the closing arguments in last week’s case, the jury reached a unanimous decision

Throughout the course of the trial, Rihanna had attended the trial sporadically along with their two sons – RZA Athelston Mayers (2) and one-year-old Riot Rose Mayers.
