On Monday (6.24,) it was announced that Will Smith will perform a new song at the 2024 Bet Awards on Sunday (6.30.)
In a formal statement, Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET said “From his start as a rapper to The Fresh Prince to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage.” “We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed.”
This week’s confirmation comes some three months since the superstar actor performed with J. Balvin at Coachella in April, donned in his signature Men in Black outfit.
While he is best known for his thespian successes, during his career Smith has released four studio LP including Lost and Found (2005.) And though no additional details concerning his BET appearance are available at press time, according to Variety, a source has teased that the star is working on a new album.
Taraji P. Henson is the returning host of the annual Black Entertainment Television show, where Usher will be presented with the BET Lifetime Achievement Award, along with featured performances by Ice Spice, Lauryn Hill & YG Marley, Tyla, Latto, Shaboozey and Victoria Monét.
Queen Latifah, Cardi B, Common, The Roots and The Jungle Brothers, among others, are also set to make appearances at the event and Drake leads this years BET Awards nominations with seven.
