Cher, Mary J Blige, and Ozzy Osbourne are among this years eight Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees.
The class of 2024 was announced during the latest episode of American Idol by host Ryan Seacrest and judge Lionel Richie (who, himself, was a 2022 inductee.)
In addition to Cher, Blige, and Osbourne, ’70s-rooted rockers Peter Frampton, and Foreigner, and ’90s icons the Dave Matthews Band, and A Tribe Called Quest round out this year’s class.
During her December 2024 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Cher stated “You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars … I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”
To be eligible, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.
Of the 15 nominees announced on February 10, the eight performers were selected by a ballot sent out to the Rock N’ Hall voters, leaving seven nominees from this year who will have to wait their turn, including Mariah Carey, Jane’s Addiction, Sade, Sinead O’Connor, Oasis, Lenny Kravitz and the duo Eric B. and Rakim.
The 2024 honorees will officially be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday October 19.
