Preempting Crooked Boy, his forthcoming EP, ‘Crooked Boy,’ Ringo Starr has confirmed the release of his first single, ‘February Sky.’
Written by superstar songwriter/producer Linda Perry – whose credits include Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Pink and Adele – the iconic Beatles drummer is slated to drop the new track on Friday (4.12) featuring Ringo on vocals and the kit.
Following their work together on ‘Everyone and Everything’ from Ringo’s 2022’s ‘EP3’ and ‘Coming Undone’ in 2021’s ‘Change the World’, Perry (now 58) re-approached Starr (now 83) asking if she could write an entire EP for him, including ‘Gonna Need Someone’, ‘Adeline’ and the title track.
About their latest collaboration, the iconic rocker said “Linda made me a great EP she produced it in her studio and then sent me the tracks and I added the drumming and my vocals. ’February Sky’ is great and very moody but since Linda wrote these specifically for me it of course has to have a positive peace and love element.”
Several of the song’s lyrics include “Gonna stand up rise above the rain.” “Start a revolution in these brighter days.” “Found the missing pieces.” “That were vacant to the eye.” “Well, I had enough of February sky.”
Starr’s fourth consecutive extended play project will be released on a limited-edition marble vinyl on Record Store Day, April 20 and it will be released digitally the following Friday, April 26. Interested fans can pre-order the black vinyl and CD now, releasing May 31.
In tour related news, Ringo and his All Starr Band will hit the road for 12 shows this spring with further dates set to be announced for later this later.
