19 years after her now infamous Super Bowl performance, on Sunday (1.12) Janet Jackson took to social media and thanked her fans for their continuous love and support.
Posting on her Instagram account, the superstar singer/songwriter thanked her fans for their dedication, some two decades after she suffered career-halting backlash for inadvertently showing her nipple onstage during the 2004 Halftime Show.
“Hey, you guys,” Janet wrote “I just want to let you know how much I love and appreciate YOU! Thank u for all of the love and support – every day.” The now 56-year-old legend uploaded her message during the 2023 Super Bowl, headlined by Rihanna.
In 2004, Jackson performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show with Justin Timberlake, during which time the former NYSNC singer ripped off her nipple shield, which led to a global debate about indecency in broadcasting. The “wardrobe malfunction” temporarily destroyed Janet’s career and resulted in her being blacklisted for several years thereafter.
Before the Super Bowl LVII began, Ms Jackson wrote “Speak positive words into your life. Every single morning. Think big.” “Think healing. Think success. Think peace. Think happiness. Think growth mindset.”
Social media users have also named 12 February as Janet Jackson Appreciation Day.
