For failing to register as a sex offender, Nicki Minaj‘s husband, Kenneth Petty, has been sentenced to probation and home detention.
After authorities learned that Petty failed to disclose his status after moving from New York, in November 2019, the Trinidadian rapper’s spouse was arrested in Beverly Hills, California. Though he originally pleaded not guilty to the charges he subsequently entered a plea deal in September of 2021.
According to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office obtained by CBS News, Petty was sentenced on Wednesday (7.06) to three years’ probation and a year in home detention and was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine.
When he was 16, the now 44-year-old was convicted of first-degree attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment, and second-degree assault of a teenage girl in 1995 and served an approximate four and a half year term in prison.
Petty married Minaj in October 2019, with the couple welcoming a son the following year and representatives for the superstar singer, now 39, have not yet commented on the news.
