Dutch Government Shares Plans To Open Up Concerts This Year

Following the late-January announcement by the Dutch government of an event cancellation fund, festivals are now gearing up to make their Summer return.

With a scheduled July 1st commencement date, the officially-unveiled €300 million guarantee fund will insure events cancelled due to COVID-19, allowing organizers to plan for the second half of 2021 without risking significant monies in promotion and production costs. Similar to those announced in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the government reserve will cover musical festivals, business fairs, and sports competitions that attract over 3000 attendees.

Following the announcement, Netherlands festivals quickly began to prepare for programming later this year, including Awakenings and DGTL – each of which are now slated for September 11-12 in order to receive insurance from the fund. Drum ‘n’ bass festival Liquicity has also shared the good news to its ticket holders and prospective attendees, reflected in a risk-free ticket policy.

The event fund has provided an optimistic outlook for the impending festival season, as echoed by the gathering’s organizers who state, “Festivals in The Netherlands are currently selling out in record pace due to this new government announcement.”
