Channelling the energy of two superstar musicians, Madonna and Charli XCX have released ‘Danceteria Afterhours.’
Combining Madonna’s formative club years the drop marks the first time the these two superstars have released performed together, the track is produced by the Queen of Pop, Andrew Watt, Cirkut and Stuart Price.
Spending months teasing their collaboration and exchanging playful posts online, the 68-year old and 34-year old hosted a CLUB CONFESSIONS party with Saint Laurent during Paris Fashion Week.
The release follows the success of Danceteria, the latest single from Madonna’s No.1 album, Confessions II.
The superstar collaboration follows Madonna and Charli putting the kibosh on rumors of tension, after the UK songstress’ lyric “the dance floor is dead” in ‘Rock Music’ prompted speculation about a rift, as the US legend prepared to release a dance-focused album. After Madonna responded with a disco-themed post that many interpreted as a playful jab, the pair later appeared together at the Saint Laurent’s menswear show in Paris, sitting side by side, smoking, hugging and dancing behind the DJ booth.
Charli later clarified that the lyric reflects her relationship with her Brat LP, not her views on dance music, adding that she doesn’t believe in strict genre boundaries and sees the current dance landscape as thriving.
With 13 nominations to her credit, on Sunday (9.27,) Madonna will open the MTV Video Music Awards, her first performance at the show in 23 years and her fifth overall,
With three limited-edition CDs available,’Danceteria Afterhours’ is out now.
