In his new song ‘Earth Girl,’ Neil Young opens up about his love for Daryl Hannah.
On Friday (9.18,) the iconic singer/songwriter will drop his Second Song LP, featuring a track dedicated to his actress wife, who he married in 2018.
Confessing the song is one of his favorites, in an interview with MOJO magazine, Young said “It has two melodies in it – one melody on top of another. One has a lot of words that come fast, and the other one is more gentle.” “That’s one of my favorite songs. I know it describes my love for Daryl pretty well”.
After splitting from his second wife Pegi Morton earlier that year, it was in 2014 that Neil started dating the the now 65-year old thespian after which celebrity couple married in 2018.
Stating that it took him his “whole life” to find his true love, the Grammy award winner added:
“It took my whole life to find it, but then when I was there, I was going: ‘There are no worries here of any consequence’.” “We are very close together in our life experiences. As artists, we understand each other. We understand the space and the time that’s required to do whatever it is we want to do”.
Young’s forthcoming full length also includes several old songs which the rocker dug out from his archive and re-recorded with his band The Chrome Hearts. Written some six decades ago, one of the tracks, ‘I’ll Love You Forever,’ is about a teenage crush and Chrome Hearts drummer Anthony LoGerfo is adamant the song is just as relevant today because of Neil’s love for Daryl.
Anthony explained “He wrote I’ll Love You Forever as a teenager, about a teenage love, but now it applies so much to his life. Because that love is so pure, like a teenage love. Their love is for real.” and Neil added “The feeling in the song was like it could have been yesterday. I was young when I wrote it, but that doesn’t matter, because that’s just the age of my body. I could have written it tomorrow.” “I disassociate it from the time frame. Songs are great – if you’re there when you do it and you’re not contriving something and you’re letting it happen, it’s going to be there with you forever.”
