After the Trump administration took to TikTok on Wednesday night (9.16) with a montage showing United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arresting and deporting immigrants, Zara Larsson responded to The White House who used her 2025 ‘Midnight Sun’ hit as the soundtrack for their latest anti-immigration social media video.
Wasted no time in responding to the clip via her own TikTok video, which she began by making the “loser” gesture with her fingers, the 28-year old Scandinavian singer/songwriter, stated:
“It really makes me sad to see that, genuinely, my heart’s heavy,” “‘Cause I wish I could speak to whoever made this video. I wish I could talk to you. And I wish I could help you remember that you and I, we aren’t that different. At all. And we’re not that different from the people in this video, either. The biggest difference between us is that we were dealt a different hand in life.”
Fortunate to be born in Sweden and having access to education and healthcare, while other people are “not that lucky,” the superstar musician added:
“They want to have a better life for their families, or for themselves and their children. And I just don’t understand how it could be the worst thing in the world to be an undocumented immigrant.” “And a vast majority of these people who are undocumented are regular people with jobs, and they’re just trying to have a better future.”
Criticizing the “dehumanizing” video, Zara stated, “I don’t understand why you would do this video… And this just creates this massive divide between people. I just don’t get it. Like, it’s just so f**king uncool… You guys are such f**king losers. Like, it’s crazy.”
Hardly the first musician to push back again the administration for use of their music in pro-Trump social media posts with authorization, Larsson joins the likes of Ariana Grande, Green Day, Katy Perry, Noah Kahan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Olivia Rodrigo.
