Doja Cat Addressed Drugs + Alcohol

In a candid TikTok video, on Monday (8.31) Doja Cat opened up about her past “problems” with alcohol and drugs and reflected on the connection between substance abuse and people with “uncared for (or) undiagnosed mental illness”.

Born Amala Dlamini, the superstar musician said:

“The best example, from my experience, is using the Internet as a means of validation to the negative thoughts in my head, which were then brought on by drinking alcohol.” “I’ve never had a real problem with drugs, except for weed, but… alcohol is something that I definitely have had a problem with – I was never an alcoholic, but I definitely had problems.”

Insisting that it’s “not good to pair these two things together”, the singer/songwriter reminded fans that they’re not “indestructible,” revealing she used cocaine at one point,

Before urging anyone with mental health battles to avoid the Internet, the 30-year old said “I have struggled with cocaine… I think could have been like eight years ago, but I’m well past that, so… thank God.” “If people are commenting stuff that makes you hate yourself… validates the stuff that you already hate about yourself, just know that first of all, you probably need help – second of all, they probably need help.”

Calling the Internet “everyone’s favorite place to project,” the artist added “Be clear in your words – this isn’t a place where people want to be clear… not everything is the truth; not everything is so cut and dry.”
