After the White House‘s TikTok account posted a video imbedding Katy Perry‘s ‘Firework’ lyrics, “Boom boom boom,” along with the caption, “Iran has been warned,” the superstar singer/songwriter pushed back against the Trump Administration’s use of her song within video footage of American military strikes on Iran.
Taking to social media on Saturday (7.25,) the superstar songstress stated:
“I am deeply appalled and angry to see Firework used on the @WhiteHouse TikTok account as a backing track for video footage of military strikes. I did not approve this, I was not asked, and I absolutely do not condone it.” “I wrote this song to be an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength for people going through their darkest personal moments,” she continued. “To see a message of self-worth and upliftment weaponised to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for. My music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare.”
Not the only musician to take issue with the Trump administration’s use of their songs, in June Ariana Grande slammed the White House for using her 2024 song ‘Bye’ in a video promoting ICE and Border Patrol.
“Please do not ever use my music ?in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense,” penned Grande in the comments section of the White House post.
