While touring Europe in support of their 40th-anniversary celebrations the North American leg of Roxette‘s trek has been cancelled.
Taking to social media on Friday (7.25,) the legendary Swedish act announced the news, writing:
“Due to logistics and hugely increased touring costs, Live Nation US has decided to postpone the North American tour. Hope to see you some other time down the road.” The announcement was signed “Team Rox”.
Informing fans that the decision was solely that of the promoter Live Nation, on Saturday (7.25,), the act’s founder and frontman Per Gessle added a personal note:
“Lena (Philipsson), I and the band are of course disappointed. We were really looking forward to this North American tour and the US is by far our biggest streaming market. This decision was made by Live Nation USA, which they probably based on their own calculations. I hope we can play for our fab fans in the USA and Canada at some point in the near future.”
Originally slated to headline the bill that also included 1980s favorites Taylor Dayne and Nick Lowe, Roxette had been booked into amphitheatres across North America.
Despite stating that the tour was being “postponed,” ticketholders for the US and Canadian dates received notice that their money was being refunded for the shows.
The cancellation comes concurrent with the original duo’s 1990 mega-hit ‘It Must Have Been Love’ officially joined YouTube’s Billion Views Club.
