Two months after ending his professional 15-year relationship with Warner Music Group/Asylum, Billboard reports that Ed Sheeran has signed a new deal with Interscope Records.
Reflecting on his meeting with A+R executive Ed Howard at a tiny Notting Hill show at the age of 18 – that resulted in sofa-surfing, early demos and eventually a record deal that changed his life – Sheeran said that leaving WMG was a result of his personal evolution as a father of two, adding “My life is hugely different now… I’ve been feeling in my gut for a long time that a lot of things in my professional life need to change.”
Thanking his prior record company that leaves the door open for future collaborations, the 35-year old musician revealed his intention to take time away from music once his LOOP tour wraps, telling fans he wants to prioritize being a father to his two daughters Lyra (5,) and four-year-old Jupiter with wife Cherry Seaborn.
During his June show in Glendale, Arizona, the superstar singer/songwriter took a moment to explain that he may be off the road for some time, telling the audience they “may not see him again for a while.” “This is gonna be my last time here in a while. I might take some time off once this tour has ended and sort of do the dad thing. So if I don’t see you for a while, I love you, thank you for coming.”
