50 Cent Drops Sean Combs Documentary: Look + Listen

Executive produced by his longtime rival 50 Cent.Sean, ‘Diddy’ Combs has slammed Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the new Netflix docuseries about his life and legal troubles.

Stating that the footage used in the docu-series was stolen, the incarcerated music mogul who is serving a four-year sentence for prostitution-related charges, blasted the documentary as a “shameful hit piece”.

Debuting today (12.02) on Netflix, the four-part series that includes never-before-seen footage of Combs and his inner circle, claims to offer a “staggering examination of the media mogul, music legend and convicted offender.”

As the heat from his federal sex crimes case was rising at the time, the teaser for the tell-all piece includes a 9.10,24 clip of Combs filmed inside his hotel room with mobile phone in hand saying “We’re losing,” as he calls for “somebody that’ll work with us that has dealt in the dirtiest of dirty business”.

Through a Combs spokesperson, the 56-year old embattled hip-hop musician has claimed that footage, including “private moments, pre-indictment material from an unfinished project and conversations involving legal strategy”, was obtained unlawfully,

According to the statement:

“Today’s teaser confirms that Netflix relied on stolen footage that was never authorized for release.” “As Netflix and CEO Ted Sarandos know, Mr Combs has been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story, in his own way. It is fundamentally unfair, and illegal, for Netflix to misappropriate that work” “None of this was obtained from Sean Combs or his team, and its inclusion raises very serious questions about how this material was accessed and why Netflix chose to use it.”

The Combs response came hours after 50 Cent and the documentary director, Alexandria Stapleton, discussed the series on Good Morning America. While they did not address how they obtained the footage, Stapleton assured the Hollywood Reporter that “the footage was obtained completely legally”.
