Despite 50 Cent‘s executive producer role in Pop Smoke‘s #1 Billboard charting Shoot For The Stars and Aim For The Moon, the music mogul may not be a part of the artist’s next posthumous album.
In a conversation with the media to discuss Pop’s upcoming releases, the “In Da Club” rapper mentioned that there is sufficient unpublished material to create another Pop Smoke full length.
“[Steven Victor] talked to me about the new record, and I’m not sure if I’ll participate with this, that record. I just wanted to make sure that his record did what it was supposed to. My interaction with Pop was like he was looking at me like I could tell him the right way to go, and that everything would work based on what I was saying.” stated 50.
Born Curtis James Jackson III, 50 Cent provided no more information, leading the media outlet to believe that something may have occurred behind the scenes. As the exec producer said, “It’s unfortunate that it actually happened. It’s like the other side of it—when I’m coming up early on, I’m so connected to the environment that everything in the environment, I’m subjected to the same. Outside of producing the record and having it perform well, I did all the promotion for that record to have it work. They would have put it out and you’d have to find it out of basic interest.”
With the recent passing of fellow rap icon DMX and his latest album produced by Swizz Beats and Pop Smoke (real name Bashar Barakah Jackson) winning this year’s Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance, the time couldn’t be more opportune for a follow up full length from the latter artist.
