Hosted by Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown, on Sunday (4.02) musicians and music fans throughout the United States joined together for the 2023 CMT Music Awards.
With Stranger Things‘ Noah Schnapp announcing the first winner — Hardy’s “Wait in the Truck” featuring Lainey Wilson for Collaborative Video of the Year to Megan Moroney winning Breakthrough Female Video of the Year for “Tennessee Orange,” and Jelly Roll taking home the trophy for Breakthrough Male Video of the Year for “Son of a Sinner,” Kane and Katelyn Brown took home Video of the Year award for their “Thank God: duet.
In advance of the broadcast, the Video of the Year field was narrowed down to three finalists on the final day, including Carrie Underwood’s “Hate My Heart,” Hardy’s “Wait in the Truck” featuring Lainey Wilson, and Kane and Katelyn Brown’s “Thank God.”
The country music night also presented performances by Ballerini and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” queens, Jelly Roll, and a special tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd by Guns N’ Roses’ Slash, ZZ Tops’ Billy Gibbons, and Cody Johnson.
