The Weeknd put his his newly-acquired shades to work this weekend when he delivered a shining performance of his latest single “Blinding Lights.”
On Friday (December 6th), the Canadian-born crooner brought a neon-lit cube with reflective walls to the stage of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when he sang his brand new Republic/XO record. With an adrenaline-pumping rhythm and escalating synths, “Blinding Lights” could easily supply the soundtrack to a pivotal scene in any vintage 80’s cult classic.
In addition to the extraordinary set, the exhibition was televised performance was filmed from multiple angles in black and white, as the 29-year-old Grammy winner sang inside the mirror-cube, making the best of its illusions before stepping outside to greet fans. The crowd sang the chorus and some members of the audience raised mirrors of their own that reflected The Weeknd’s glow.
“Blinding Lights” made for the second of the singer’s two-night preview of new material on Colbert, as Thursday (December 5th) saw the live debut of “Heartless.” Watch the performance below.
