It is now 2020, and everybody should go into the new year with at least a little bit of positivity. Sam Smith has come to deliver kind words through his social media.
On Sunday (January 5th), Smith took to their Instagram account to share a photo showing the star sitting topless on a boat while on vacation. In the caption, the 27-year-old spoke about how, in the past, they didn’t feel comfortable enough to have their shirt off in public, let alone post a picture of it. “Feels so good to have my top off on holiday. Spent all my life hiding my body from the sun,” they wrote. “The last year my skin has been soaking in that LIGHT.”
A number of stars showed their support for Smith, including trans activist Munroe Bergdorf, singer Parson James, and even recent Golden Globe winner Taron Egerton, who commented, “You look gorgeous.”
This is not the first time that Smith has opened up about their past struggles with body positivity. All throughout 2019, the “Lay Me Down” singer often used their platforms to speak about the evolution of their own self-image, and how they’d come to love their body.
