With New York State imposing strict COVID-19 rules on newcomers including a 14-day quarantine, some find it extremely troubling that out-of-town performers for this weekend’s VMAs will not adhere to the rules. Using special circumstances and professional sports as a baseline, officials have declared that those entering the state for MTV awards will not be subject to the two week mandate.
According to New York State officials, the VMA performers were granted an exemption from the mandatory 14-day quarantine. “Similar to professional athletes, the VMA cast and crew are required to adhere to strict procedures which include quarantining when not working, wearing masks and appropriate social distancing, and rigorous testing during their stay. Exemptions to the travel advisory, which The Department has granted on a case by case basis, include individuals who have traveled to New York for medical procedures or funerals, as examples,” the Department Of Health said.
According to MTV, a total of 10 musical acts will perform on the 30th, though it remains unclear as to how many will travel to New York to appear in person. Some slated to play are Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus, DaBaby and stay tuned for more on this interesting iteration of this years Video Music Awards.
