Though Metallica has a massive diehard fanbase, the rock legends gain advocates through the release of new rare recordings, demos, rough mixes and more as part of their recently-introduced Vinyl Club.
The band has thus far launched a subscription signup for the club, which runs through March 31st. Each participant will receive four seven-inch singles as well as other collectibles (possibly stickers, guitar picks and posters) that the group will send throughout the year. Many of the songs, they say, will be pressed to vinyl for the very first time during this period.
Metallica has been at the forefront of the vinyl resurgence as they remastered and re-released their back catalogue on the medium via their own Blackened Recordings label in 2014.
Furthermore, in a 2018 interview with Classic Rock, drummer Lars Ulrich explained why vinyl mattered so much to him. “I still have all of my old records,” he said. “I still occasionally take them out. I would be lying to you if I said there was no nostalgic undertone to the whole thing. It’s just nice to be able to sit down and listen to music for no other reason than to sit down and listen to music.”
