As we hurdle into the fiery horror of tomorrow’s Election Day, here’s a diamond distraction: the Mannequin Challenge
Reportedly originated by Twitter user @pvrity___, the premise behind the Mannequin Challenge is capturing groups of people frozen in place, as if they were mannequins (duh!). The track of choice this time around is “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd, though there have been several variations as to what song acts as each individual video’s soundtrack.
Over the weekend Michelle Williams, Beyoncé, and Kelly Rowland reunited as Destiny’s Child to take part in the latest social media sensation. While celebrating Rowland’s son’s birthday, the nostalgic R&B girl group is seen playing with balloons as Lauryn Hill’s “Every Ghetto, Every City” blares in the background.
Other artists like Diplo and Young Thug released their own Mannequin Challenge videos, while rap duo Rae Sremmurd re-enacted the trend at their November 3 concert, complete with full audience participation.
