74 years after recognizing Top 10 Billboard chart status, Judy Garland returns to the coveted club with the 2019 edition of “The Man That Got Away” that jumped from #15* to #10* on this week’s Billboard Dance Club Songs Top 50 chart.
Updated for contemporary club culture by veteran dance music wünderkind Eric Kupper – also responsible for charting topping remixed singles for Aretha Franklin, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, P!nk, Diana Ross – Judy Garland’s 1954 Grammy Award winning, Carnegie Hall performance has been deftly updated for contemporary club while maintaining the full integrity of the original vocal (also performed in the original film version of “A Star Is Born”. In tandem with the recent movie, Judy, about the artist’s final years, the remix concept, remixer choices (including follow up versions by Dirty Disco), and national marketing was conceived and executed by PRO MOTION The Brad LeBeau Company, Inc. who also commissioned and promoted consecutive #1* Billboard charting remixed singles “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough 2017”, “I’m Coming Out / Upside Down 2018”, and “The Boss 2019” for Diana Ross (also on Universal Music).
Eric Kupper himself was interviewed by Billboard regarding this project and noted “My father was a huge Judy Garland fan, and I grew up loving her voice…. To be able to work on one of her recordings, especially this song, is such an honor.
