J.Lo + Shakira Receive Emmy Nomination For Superbowl Performance

In addition to her Oscar nomination for Hustlers Jennifer Lopez and Shakira received their first Emmy nominations in the category of Outstanding (live) Variety Special for the all-Latin performance during the Super Bowl LIV half-time show.

Now part of a select group of stellar performances, the Hispanic diva duo are in super company as they join Bruce Springsteen (2009), Beyoncé (2013), Bruno Mars (2104), Katy Perry (2015) and Lady Gaga (2017) each of whom were nominated for the same show in prior years. While the half-time performance by Prince and Coldplay were noted in 2007 and 2016 respectively the performers themselves were not recognized. Watch the entire show that earned Lopez and Shakira this nomination below.

The Emmys are the first EGOT-level awards show to announce their nominations since COVID-19 brought life to a screeching halt back in March. Tony nominations, for example, were scheduled to be announced back on April 28th, but they were postponed indefinitely because of the pandemic. Stay tuned for updates on Shakira and Jennifer Lopez as well as the state of awards shows.
