Throughout her varied, multi-media career Jennifer Lopez has had a number of career milestones and this week, she called an old friend to celebrate one in particular.
In honor of the 20th anniversary of The Wedding Planner, the music/film/fashionista reunited virtually on Instagram Live with Matthew McConaughey as the duo reminisced about their time making the hit romantic comedy.
Talking about their 2001 big screen collaboration, “It still feels like just yesterday we were in the middle of that field with the movie theater,” said Lopez, who played the wedding planner Mary Fiore in the film. McConaughey, who portrayed doctor Steve Edison, couldn’t believe that two decades have passed: “When you say it’s been 20 years… I was going over the math. That’s a while ago.”
Lopez spoke about how she and McConaughey, now both 51, had an immediate connection on the set that led to their onscreen chemistry. “I so enjoyed working with you,” she said. “We had such a nice rapport and chemistry. We were somewhat at the beginning of our careers at that time. It was exciting to be working on any movie. I still feel that way. It was a magical time. I’m such a romantic, too, that working on those types of movies have a real feel for me.”
Upon its release in January 2001 The Wedding Planner topped the box office grossing over $94 million worldwide. That very same week, Lopez’s sophomore album J-Lo hit #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, making the Nuyorican artist the first and only multi-hyphenate talent to have both the #1 album and film in the same week.
