As the MTV Video Music Awards approach this Sunday, August 30th at 8PM ET/PT J Balvin and Roddy Ricch have been removed from the performance lineup.
“Unfortunately, J Balvin and Roddy Ricch are no longer performing,” a source close to the production released. “As with every awards show, there are always last-minute talent changes. That said, this year has more logistical hurdles than most and the health and safety of our employees and partners is of the utmost importance.” Ricch and Balvin were set to be big draws for the awards ceremony, driven by the former’s hit “The Box” and the latter’s elaborate stage setups and antics. The updated lineup still boasts performances by Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, BTS, Miley Cyrus, DaBaby and more.
Pre-pandemic plans for the VMA’s included New York’s Barclays Center with tangential performances around the city, but additional social distancing guidelines have forced producers to abandon the Brooklyn venue in favor of a remote show that will host exhibitions at the specific New York locations and at a sound stage in Los Angeles.
