Written by British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran and Pharrell Williams, who also produced it and provided uncredited background vocals, “Sing” was released on 7 April 7, 2014 as the lead single from artist’s second studio album, × (2014). The song became Sheeran’s first UK #1 single, topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand and Ireland and peaked at #13 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (on Atlantic Records).

Upon release music critics complimented Sheeran’s change of sound and compared him to the likes of Justin Timberlakefellow Brit, Sam Smith and Robin Thicke’s ubiquitous-sounding ‘Blurred Lines‘ in the percussion.
