Flashback Friday Video : Blondie ‘Heart Of Glass’

Composed and performed by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein ‘Heart of Glass’ is one of the signature songs by the North American new wave band Blondie, featured on the act’s third studio album, Parallel Lines (on Chrysalis Records). Released in January  of 1979, the third single from the full length peaked at #1 in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Originally titled ‘Once I Had A Love’, Debbie  and Chris wrote an early version of the soon-to-be classic in 1974–75 with a slower, funkier sound and a basic disco beat. The song was re-recorded as a second demo with the same title three years later when the song was made a bit more pop-oriented. Harry said that ‘Heart …’ was one of the first songs Blondie ever wrote, first as a ballad and then a reggae song but it never quite worked until the band met with producer Mike Chapman to start work on Parallel Lines.

In December 2004, Rolling Stone ranked ‘Heart of Glass’ #255 on its list of the 500 greatest songs of all time
