Following an extended hiatus from music that saw the birth of his daughter, Ed Sheeran returns to the fray by teasing the arrival of a 2021 project.
To mark his birthday the “Shape of You” singer released the strongest hint yet about his next album release with a celebratory post on Wednesday (February 17th). The Atlantic Records artist wrote: “30 today. Thank you for all your wonderful messages, I feel very loved. Currently dressed the same as I was on my 3rd birthday about to chow down on Colin the pirate caterpillar, poor bloke” and signing off with “I’ll be back online with the 4th instalment in the series later this year, until then xx.”
Decoding his message, the four-part series Ed refers to is his debut + (or Plus from 2011), his sophomore album from 2014 × (Multiply) and 2017’s ÷ (Divide). And assuming he’s completing the elementary mathematical equation, fans would be safe in guessing that Sheeran’s name is part of his next effort – (Minus).
Much has changed since his Divide LP set the charts afire with super-singles “Galway Girl” and “Perfect” as Sheeran got married to Cherry Seaborn, had his first child, and in 2019 realized a long-held dream of cutting a record with his pals Skrillex, Stormzy, Justin Bieber and more for the No.6 Collaborations Project.
