Dolly Parton Explains Origins Of Imagination Library + More In Oprah Interview

On November 13th, Dolly Parton joined Oprah in a new episode of The Oprah Conversation, available exclusively on AppleTV+. Throughout the conversation, the country/pop music legend gets candid about her faith in times of crisis, owning up to past mistakes, her positive attitude about aging, and more.

In one particularly heartfelt moment, Parton opens up about how her illiterate father inspired her to open up the Imagination Library, a charity that donates books to young children. “Daddy was a very smart man…but he was ashamed that he couldn’t read or write. That bothered him. He felt like he couldn’t learn after he was grown. I remember thinking, ‘I need to do something,'” she said. The initiative has so far gifted over 147,000,000 books to kids in hopes of boosting literacy and sparking inspiration in those who participate.

The latest in a litany of in-depth conversations Oprah’s conducted in 2020 through her new Apple TV+ show, much more information is contained in the iconic singer/songwriter’s interview, . Past guests have included Mariah Carey, Matthew McConaughey, with former President Barack Obama’s episode scheduled to premiere on November 17th.
