Earlier this year, in association with her partnership with Island Records, Toni Braxton released “Do It.” and now she’s linked up with Hip-Hop royalty Missy Elliott for a spiced-up take on the original urban radio smash.
In contrast to the original, quintessential Braxton-featured, mellow piano, light synths, and percussive arrangement, the new Elliott-accompanied edition adds a bit more bounce alongside a new vocal from the Maryland native as Missy’s fresh verse supports Toni’s lyric encouraging listeners to leave unhealthy relationships.
The seven-time Grammy Award winner talked about the song in a recent statement: “We have all been through situations like this when there is really nothing more to say …. You know he’s not right and you just need to do what you need to do. There is also an element of hope in the song that after you do what you need to do, things will get better.”
