In retaliation against the potential September ban due to security issues stemming from China’s involvement with popular media platform TikTok, the company has decided to sue the United States Government.
During the proceedings, TikTok released their data including its 800% monthly active user growth since January 2018, when the application was utilized by some 11 million Americans. By June 2020 and months into pandemic quarantines, the company’s total number of active U.S. monthly users had soared to more than 91 million with more than 50 million daily.
The global numbers reflect the North American totals with approximately 55 million worldwide users as of January 2018 that ballooned to more than 271 million by December 2018 and 507 million a year later. In July of this year TikTok has surpassed 2 billion global downloads and reported nearly 700 million monthly active users.
