Four years after watching his smoldering 2015 single “The Hills” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, The Weeknd can rightfully celebrate the song’s success again once again.
On Friday (June 28th), Abel Tesfaye became the 23rd artist to have a song earn a Diamond certification from the RIAA, after the single pushed past the 10 million units sold mark. Interestingly, the Republic Records-released recording dethroned fellow Beauty Behind the Madness single “Can’t Feel My Face” on the aforementioned survey.
The “Wicked Games” vocalist joins an elite club of other artists who have created such iconic songs as the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling,” Robin Thicke, Pharrell and T.I.’s “Blurred Lines,” LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” and Elton John’s “Something About The Way You Look Tonight”/”Candle in the Wind.”
Though The Weeknd has remained quiet on the album front, having recently deleted his own Instagram account, he helped fuel the star-studded single “Power Is Power” for HBO’s Game of Thrones compilation album alongside Travis Scott and SZA. Stay tuned for more news regarding the follow-up to 2018’s My Dear Melancholy,.
