In preparation for her upcoming album, which now has a release date, Taylor Swift has dropped a new track “You Need to Calm Down.”
The self-released song contains a slower-than-usual beat for the “ME!” vocalist, but stays lively with its synth beats and snaps. Swift methodically sings “You are somebody that I don’t know/but you’re takin’ shots at me like it’s Patron/like damn/it’s 7 a.m.” in the first verse, seemingly calling out people on social media who don’t know but have an opinion of her. “Say it in the street, that’s a knockout/but you say it in a tweet, that’s a cop out/and I’m just like hey/are you okay.”
The multi-Grammy winner also revealed the name, cover and release date for her much-anticipated seventh album: Lover, which will arrive on August 23rd. The 18-track collection is “very romantic,” Swift told the hundreds of thousands of fans who tuned in to her Instagram Live – but people shouldn’t expect all love songs, as the singer explained: “Not just simply thematically. … You can find romance in loneliness or sadness.”

More so, the 29-year-old Pennsylvania native revealed a collaboration with designer Stella McCartney, who will release fashions inspired by the music of the effort.
