A coalition of top-tier musicians is banding together to encourage young people to vote as if their future depends on it … because it does.
Kicked off by the international advocacy organization Global Citizen and voter registration body HeadCount, the pro-vote initiative aims to engage one million young voters and get 50,000 voting-aged Americans to register ahead of the Presidential election on November 3rd. According to data published by Global Citizen, more than a third of eligible voters are Gen Z or Millennials, and upwards of 80% of people aged 18-29 believe their vote can affect change. On the flip side, just 60% are planning to vote.
In an effort to encourage the younger generation to register, several superstar musicians have agreed to participate in special fan experiences. Once the voting registration status is completed, a virtual dance lesson is up for grabs with Usher and his choreographer, Nicky Jam is offering a never-before-seen performance, there’s a meet-and-greet with Quavo, and a virtual catch-up DJ Khaled can be had. “Major key alert!,” commented Khaled in a statement. “Checking your voting status and registering to vote is easy and important.” Stay tuned to track the success of this campaign.
