Last night, countless celebrities joined together to honor the late Prince at his official tribute concert.
Hosted at St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center (near Prince’s home in Paisley Park) artists such as Stevie Wonder, Tori Kelly, and Chaka Khan all took the stage, performing some of the Purple One’s greatest hits. While Wonder and Khan teamed up for their rendition of “1999,” Tori Kelly performed “Diamonds & Pearls.” Additionally, Prince’s costars Moris Day and the Time from Purple Rain also made an appearance. Although, surprisingly, Sheila E. was not in attendance .
While it was unfortunate that John Mayer and Christina Aguilera had to cancel their appearances, Twin Cities reports the two had no real obvious connections to Prince and “weren’t really missed.” Despite fewer artists and a three-hour estimate, the concert went on for five hours int total. The city’s mayor Chris Coleman even declared Thursday night Prince Day. Check out some fan-filmed footage of the concert below.
