Spotify is now challenging traditional social media platforms by adding a popular function: stories.
The streaming giant has just introduced a new feature which they call “storylines” in which artists will be able to share additional background information for their music or creative processes and will stay up for as long as they like. The option is available on Spotify’s iOS and Android apps, but not on desktop. It pops up as songs play, not unlike the partnership with Genius, “Behind the Lyrics.”
A Spotify spokesperson confirmed that Storyline is currently still in the testing phase, saying, “We are always testing new ways to create better experiences for more users.” Those who were selected for the beta version will see an icon at the bottom of the app screen where they can swipe up to access the offering. Stay tuned for more regarding what artists end up posting to their Storylines in the coming weeks and months.
