It has finally arrived, the highly teased collab between Selena Gomez and Marshmello, and it seems the pop songstress has brought out a new side on the EDM-inflected track.
In the visualizer video, released via Spotify, Gomez emerges from the shower to FaceTime the sticky producer. As she writhes melodramatically around her living room in her pink satin robe and damp hair, Gomez shows how hot-blooded pursuits go down when you’re home alone, singing to a person who wears a bucket on his head.
It’s a mix of emotions from melancholy to hope. Gomez said in a recent interview to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that the song’s lyrics mirror feelings and experiences she was going through when she recorded the song.
“I’ve been running through the jungle, I’ve been running with the wolves/ To get to you,” Gomez sings over heaps of handclaps.
The production on “Wolves” is not catered to a specific sub-genre, rather it rides the thin line of dance and pop, with almost a country twang heard in the bridge. It’s different than most of what’s on the radio, a definite autumnal anthem.
“Wolves” is out on Interscope now. Watch the visualizer below.
