If listening to Sam Smith‘s “Too Good at Goodbyes” gave you incredible feels, just watch the official video.

The video opens with a close-up of a lost-looking Smith staring at the ground as he sings a wordless melody in what looks like a recording studio.

The rest of the clip cuts between scenes of Smith singing in the studio and glimpses of couples slow dancing, kissing, crying and turning away from each other in what look like scenes of relationships breaking down. His constant eye contact with the camera just drives his point home.

In an interview with Attitude magazine, Smith explained the emotional hell he went through while recording the album, which almost drove him to stop making music. “I got dumped, which wasn’t very nice. Writing music about that kind of thing is normally like therapy for me, but when I got dumped this time ’round I just couldn’t write for about two months… My team had to force me to get into the studio, because I almost felt as if I didn’t want to do it any more. So, there were moments on there where it got a bit intense and I started to lose myself.”
